Palazzo Ajutamicristo is one of the most inspiring and magnificent examples of Palermo's aristocracy. Declared a National Monument, it is part of the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane.
The building is by the famous architect Carnalivari, designed in the late-fifteenth century, it is located in Via Garibaldi, in the historic Kalsa district. It was built by Baron Guglielmo Ajutamicristo, who left his Arabian castle in Misilmeri and moved to Palermo, where he wanted to create a building that would show off his immense wealth.
Over the years the building has welcomed many famous people including kings and emperors, and has changed ownership many times, passing through the families of Moncada, Tasca d'Almerita and Calefati di Canalotti.
Today the Calefati family owns half of Palazzo Ajutamicristo, while the other half is owned by the Sicilian Region.
