Visita al pastore

Castelbuono

Visit to a Ricotta cheese farm in the Madonie mountains

A visit to a real Sicilian shepherd, an authentic experience of the rustic Sicilian country life.

Traditional Sicilian shepherds still make cheese the way their ancestors did (the process they use was already described in Homer’s Odyssey in the 8th century B.C.!). They live at the pace of nature, seasons and animal life.

You will attend the Ricotta and Pecorino cheese making process, and taste sheep curd cheese, tuma as well as ricotta. The guide and the shepherd will explain the different steps and the process used.
From November to June, the visit takes place near Castelbuono as follows:

Duration: about 4 hours (morning and lunch)
It includes a short hike, an encounter with a shepherd during the cheese making process, cheese tasting of course and warm ricotta served directly from the pot.
It is definitely a special gastronomic experience and a great opportunity to spend some time with locals.
